Greetings to all. Where has the time gone? I've not been to a RHS reunion since the tenth reunion (and remember dancing the night away and not wanting it to end!)
However, there's some anxiety as I sign up for the Friday night event at the former high school. Will I know anyone? Will anyone remember me?
I attended the former Adair Elementary school and remember hosting some wild slumber parties while living with my family on 39th and Welcome, Robbinsdale. We moved to 31st and Edgewood Drive, Crystal, and then attended, Sandburg Middle School. I remember dances held upstairs at the police station hosted by the Robbinsdale Police Department; The A and W drive-in on Hwy 100; Bernie's Deli, Porky's, and more. It was a difficult time as my parents divorced. It was also the Golden Sixties.
High school was a blur. The Robin's Tale newspaper provided great opportunities for connecting with other students. I also remember a Chicago trip with other newspaper kids and I think I won a national award for something. High school friend Vicki Roope Walden's dad, George Roope (and, Robbinsdale Police Chief) would pick us up in a squad car at the RHS front door following the dismissal bell. What were we thinking? Vicki and I are still friends. She and Jerry currently live in Florida.
Following graduation, I attended Minnesota State University, Mankato and graduated with a BS in secondary education, English, Speech Communication. I ended up teaching speech in a Minneapolis Fortune 500 company for nearly 30 years. I have sent many rehearsed company executives to Wall Street for their presentations. Go figure.
While a RHS senior, I met Bruce Forbes on a blind date, arranged by one of my student newspaper friends, Marsha Covell. We dated for nearly eight years. Now, we've been married for 42 years; currently retired; and, spend winters in Ixtapa, Zihuatanejo, Mexico. That's fifty years of togetherness!
We have one daughter, married, with two grandchildren, three and seven years old. I am a U of M Extension Master Gardener and have planted over 1,000 trees. See you on Friday October 6 at RHS!
